About Larry Little.
The NFL Career and Beyond
Larry Little, Pro Football Hall of Famer and Philanthropist
Larry Little began his pro football career in 1967 with the San Diego Chargers. In 1969 he was traded to the Miami Dolphins and it wasn't long before he was being praised as one of the National Football League's premier offensive linemen. A fixture at right guard during the 1970s when the Dolphins were a dominant team in pro football, Larry Little was the embodiment of the intimidating force of the famed Miami rushing attack. A superb pass blocker, awesome on the scrimmage line and especially as the lead man on the powerful Dolphin sweeps, Little was named first-team All-NFL from 1971 through 1975 and again in 1977. He was also named second-team ALL-NFL in 1978, and ALL-AFC five times. Larry was selected to play in 5 Pro Bowls (1970, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975). He was named the NFL Players Assoc. AFC Offensive Lineman of the Year in 1970, 1971 and 1972.
Over the years, Larry Little has been inducted in 6 different Halls of Fame as a member: Pro Football Hall of Fame, NFL Hall of Fame, Florida Black Colleges Football Hall of Fame, Bethune Cookman University Hall of Fame, Booker T. Washington High School Hall of Fame and most recently in March 2019 the Bob Hayes Hall of Fame. Post playing, Larry has served as head football coach for his Alma-Mater, Bethune Cookman University, North Carolina Central University and in addition, head coach of the Ohio Glory of the World League of American Football (which eventually become the now defunct NFL Europe).
In 1993 Larry was added to the Miami Dolphins Honor Roll and in 2007 he was named the Florida High School Assoc. All Century Team which selected the Top 33 players in the 100-year history of high school football in the state of Florida's history. With hundreds of accolades and community service awards under his belt as well as an honorary Doctorate Degree from Biscayne College (now St. Thomas University) and Bethune Cookman University, Larry still has never forgotten his roots, he is as Coach Shula called him "a real inspiration, not just for the way he performs but also for his influence on our younger players."
Today, Larry is still shining his light on players in the NFL as well as youth throughout South Florida and at his alma mater, Bethune Cookman University. Early on in his football career, he established the Larry Little Summer Boys Camp, which was a blessing to many youngsters in Overtown and throughout the Greater Miami community.
Larry's most recent accolades include being honored by the National Association of Black Journalists and the Florida Black Sports Hall of Fame. In January of 2023, Larry Little was honored by the Miami Dade Commission with a street naming the Lamy Little Street in Over-town, Miami. Larry presently resides with his wife Rosie in South Miami Dade. He is the proud father of 4, grandfather to 10 grandchildren and great grandfather to 4 great grandchildren.
“Our youth are our future leaders. Help us motivate and inspire them.”
